1984 (4) Photoshop

Brilliant.

There was a story on BBC News 24 just now, James Purnell MP* failed to show up for a photo-opp at a hospital, so Nulab just photoshopped him into a right-hand side of a picture of the actual event. And they did it really badly, they showed the picture on the news**, he stuck out like a sore thumb, the lighting was all wrong, a kid with scissors and sticky tape could have done better.

* He got a first in PPE at Oxford, a bit like Dave, another complete waste of space.

** I have pinched this cut-out from Iain Dale, the full picture shows about five people. Thanks to RM.

Not only was he late, but the others appear to have followed strict instructions about which suits, ties and colours to wear. This is important as most people understand that being ordinary and not models whom the camera loves, they have to work hard to look tidy.

Purnell looks like he couldn't be bothered with mere people and is the sulky teenager trying to make a point about expressing his individuality at a time when the whole point is that he is not acting individually but collectively.

It just looks rude, as if he is disrespecting an event which was plenty big to the other people.

Wow. He really did look funny in that picture. I was just stopping in because Lady Thinker featured you on her site. So hello there!

Iain Dale's got the pictures plus a few more he made himself - just in case James is late for any other important events, you understand.

The Telegraph has details about how the other Labour MPs arranged themselves in the photos to leave a space for him to be inserted into later!

There's comment from his department kicking around to the effect that it all depends what you mean by "merge" - reminiscent of Clinton & Lewinsky.

Purnell it was who brought in 24 hour drinking. How comfortable does he feel with Brown likely to reverse his big policy ... and now this?

TPS, I wouldn't mind so much if it were well done, but the full photo suggests that JP's right shoulder would be occupying the same space as the left shoulder of the bloke next to him, it's just realy badly done, and clearly JP's photo was not a 'few minutes' later because the lighting is all different.
