Tim Almond said...: I don't really have a problem with 2nd homes themselves. It's that home-owner-ism means that people who buy 2nd homes in rural idylls then try to prevent any new development in order to protect their house price.

You then end up with ridiculous solutions like covenants on a few houses for locals, rather than the simple solution of just bulldozing a few hundred acres and building a new housing estate.; 20 May 2010 at 16:04

Mark Wadsworth said...: JT, when have I ever said anything against second home ownership? What is the difference between one family + one big house and one family + two smaller houses? As you point out, it's the rampant NIMBYism that irks.
