The Work Programme

From the Northern Echo

The DWP did not dispute that £435m had been spent on the programme so far - which put the cost at £14,000 for each person in work for "several months".
That's pretty similar to what a company I know paid a recruitment agency to hire an experienced software developer.

So so predictable. Does no-one in the government have any nous at all?

A nice expensive consultancy report into 'what went wrong'? A lack of P45s all round is what went wrong.

What puzzles me is how some people calculate £14,000 per "job" (which I think sounds about right) but the usual suspects are claiming that it's something like £2,000.

Even that is more than mimimum wage for a few months.

Roger, P45s? The corrupt buggers should be prosecuted.
