Newspeak!

Some holier than thou simpering smug fuckwit of an old trout from the HMRC was on R4 this morning 'explaining' why they failed to answer 7.2m calls last year.

She talked about 'investing' more money to make it easier for HMRC 'customers' to get through to HMRC.

It's not INVESTING you witless old bat. It's 'SPENDING'. There is zero cash return on that spending so it cannot be INVESTING.

And, we are not fucking CUSTOMERS you deceitful old bat, we are TAXPAYERS!

Death's too good for them.

HMRC have been saying customers for years

I was also thinking as I heard this of all the talk about how people complain about how many inspectors LVT would need. Meanwhile, our income tax system needs 18,000 staff to do customer service.

If you had 18,000 inspectors, you could reassess the whole country every year. No trouble. Customer service would be a doddle. You'd have people calling who disagreed with their assessment, non-payment, and not much else. You'd need some people to handle all the appeals, but as HMRC have 46,000 other staff, I think they could handle it.

Seriously, 64,000 f**king staff to do tax and VAT in the age of computers and the internet.

TS, initial LVT valuations might require five thousand people for six months or so, once that is done in future years it would only require a few hundred people to keep an eye on rents and selling prices and then index up valuations for each area accordingly.

And HMRC is not the inefficient one - DWP and assorted welfare bodies are far worse and employ about 200,000 people in all.

MW. I know. But this old trout was particularly irritating.

Lola, English is as she is spoke. Meanings change. It's no use hankering after the old ones. Everyone is a customer these days and all expenditure is investment. "I've just invested £100 in having the brakes done on my car" no longer sounds odd.

The thing is with LVT we are 'consumers' of land value.

B, yes it is a tax on consumption without being a tax on production. The perfect tax.

Lags doing bird are customers these days. This bullshit started in 1986 with Network South East. All of a sudden, an announcement at London Bridge referred to "customers". The reaction was a murmur of sniggers. The right word was "punters", which is what the railway staff called the people who paid their wages.
